Modified rye bread assists patients with irritable bowel problem

Patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in many cases are worried that one meals may trigger or aggravate their symptoms, that may add stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, or constipation. In a new study, patients whom ate rye bread that has been low in so-called "FODMAPs" (fermentable oligo- di- and mono-saccharides and polyols) experienced milder IBS signs than clients who consumed rye bread that is normal.

clients with IBS who are considering a FODMAP that is low should first discuss it using their doctor. The lowest diet that is FODMAP out most fruits and grains and will never, otherwise, be suggested or considered healthier.

"Our research implies that reduction of FODMAP content of a meals that is major, such as for instance rye bread, may reduce some signs and symptoms of IBS but is perhaps not enough by itself to attain adequate overall symptom control in IBS. It is most likely that a holistic diet that is low-FODMAP required in most situations so that you can achieve sufficient control of general signs," said Dr. Reijo Laatikainen, lead composer of the Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics study. "Low-FODMAP rye bread generally seems to be one way to increase fiber intake of patients with IBS. Similar to the remaining portion of the populace, IBS patients generally have a lowered than recommended intake of fibre," he added.
